Great story, and a great intro to classical music if you make them listen to bits of the opera. As a final project for the unit, we made a comic strip on butcher paper, picking ten events from the story. We then watched Carmen HipHopera (which you'd think would be horrible, but actually followed the story very well). The kids loved the story.
